Buyers often ask why two manufacturers quote very different prices for what looks like the same extension cord. Most of the time they are not quoting the same product — they are quoting two different readings of an incomplete brief.
The socket standard and the count
Schuko, UK, US and other standards are not interchangeable, and socket count changes the body, the tooling and the carton. Both belong in the first message.
The supply cable
Length, conductor cross-section, number of cores and jacket material together define most of the cost of an extension cord. A length stated as “about two metres” will be quoted differently by everyone who reads it.
Whether the product carries a switch or indicator
Switched and unswitched versions are different assemblies. If the range is meant to include both, say so early — it affects how the tooling conversation starts.
Quantity, packaging and destination
Order quantity drives packaging format and production planning; destination drives the standard. Stating both turns a price range into a price.
What you do not need to have decided
Colour, branding and packaging artwork can follow. It is more useful to fix the electrical specification and the commercial shape of the program first, then finalise appearance during sampling.
