Packaging is frequently the last item discussed in an electrical product program and one of the first to cause a problem. It sits between the product and every other cost in the launch: carton volume, freight, warehouse handling and, for retail, the buyer’s first impression.

Retail packaging is part of the product

For a charge adapter or a consumer power strip, the box is where the specification is communicated. Socket count, cable length and port configuration all need to be legible at shelf distance and correct in every language the market requires.

Bulk packaging is about survival and density

For project and OEM supply, the question is how many units fit in a carton without damage. Small changes in inner packing can move the master-carton count — and therefore the freight cost per unit — more than most buyers expect.

Decide artwork responsibility early

Whether artwork comes from the buyer or is developed with the manufacturer changes the timeline. Agreeing the format, the print process and who supplies the files avoids a delay right at the point where everything else is ready.

Keep packaging in the sample round

Approving a product sample without the packaging it will ship in leaves a known unknown in the program. Reviewing both together is the cheapest moment to change either one.
