The gap between a custom product idea and a stable production program is rarely a manufacturing problem. It is usually a sequencing problem: decisions that are cheap to change during development become expensive once tooling and packaging are committed.

Decide the assembly before the aesthetics

Cable construction, connector choice and plug components constrain what the housing can look like. Settling the electrical assembly first means the industrial design works with the product rather than against it.

Use the sample stage to test the real question

A first sample is most valuable when it answers a specific question — does this cable length work at the installation, does this socket spacing accept the plugs your market actually uses, does this housing mount where the customer needs it. Vague samples produce vague feedback.

Bring packaging into the conversation early

Packaging affects carton quantities, shipping cost and, in retail, the product itself. Deciding it late often forces a change to something already approved.

Plan the step after the first order

A program that scales needs repeatability: the same specification, the same components and the same packaging on the second order as the first. Agreeing what is fixed and what may vary — before the first production run — is what turns a custom product into a supply relationship.
